Rijkswaterstaat secures Juliana Canal

SAAB Tein Technology VOF has received an order from Rijkswaterstaat to provide a repeater functionality so that shippers can see each other’s AIS transponders regardless of their respective positions on the Juliana canal.

The project has the following faces:

1. Development of the ERA, repeater application;
2. Proof Of Concept in a live test environment, using test base stations on a test frequency;
3. Installation of 3 additional basestations and implementation of the ERA solution;
4. Integration of ERA in the redundant DIAMONIS system and support services during the SLA period until 2025.

Juliana Canal is a 36 km long narrow canal between Maastricht and Maasbracht in Limburg. Its configuration does not make possible for shippers on the route st-Pieter – Urmond to “see” each other by AIS. This due to the distance and geography of the terrain.
